Trans fat has become a byword nowadays. Thanks to the continuing concern over its detrimental effects on health, particularly heart health.

Trans fat is also known as partially hydrogenated oils used by food manufacturers and companies mainly due to its inexpensive cost, easy-to-use, and long-lasting qualities. It also enhances food taste and texture. Most food business outlets prefer trans fats for deep-frying foods so they can re-use the oil for a longer period of time.

However, trans fat consumption poses serious health risks by raising the level of bad cholesterol (LDL) and reducing the level of good cholesterol (HDL). It is also linked to coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke.

According to the American Heart Association, the recommended amount of trans fats consumption is limited to less than one percent of your total daily calories. Since there is already a naturally occurring trans fat from some meat and dairy products, there is virtually no room left for industrially manufactured trans fats.
